SkillsUSA chapters
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We help each student excel. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school, and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
In layman's terms, SkillsUSA is an organization that prepares students for a successful career. Whether it be welding, cosmetology, or computer science, SkillsUSA equips students with the technical, workplace, and personal skills they need to succeed.
Competitions
Watertown SkillsUSA members are given the oppurtunity to compete in a variety of competitions that help boost their leadership and technical skills. They compete on district, regional, state, and even national level.
Students will test their mettle against other SkillsUSA members in welding, design, robotics, speaches, and much, much more. SkillsUSA is a great way for students to learn about needed skills for their future careers.
Cars
(Supermileage, Electrathon, Solar)
Watertown SkillsUSA has been building cars ever since its inception. Whether it is the gas Supermileage car, the electric Electrathon car, or the new solar-powered Solar Challenge car. Each year of team of bright and amazing students from both middle and high school come together to work towards making the best car possible.
Just a few years ago, all of SkillsUSA got together to try something new: the Solar Car. The entire chapter came together to utilize each of their different skills to contribute to the funding, designing, and building of the car. Their work culminated in the Solar Car Challenge down in Texas.
Leadership
SkillsUSA isn't just robotics and machining, Watertown SkillsUSA has an intricate system of leaders. Committees are built to help manage the chapter, fundraisers are ran to keep the chapter funded, and officers lead the chapter's actions.
Members of SkillsUSA will interact with people all across the nation and learn how to build a community, lead others, and interact with new people. Those elected as officers are given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to Nebraska for the Mid-America Conference, where they build their leadership skills by running miniature chapters.
